A passion for high standards in the art of baking, product quality and the satisfaction of our customers and staff have ensured the success of Waterfield's since its first sale in 1926. Awards and honours prove Waterfield's are a committed and dedicated business, however qualifications do not reveal the passion, skill and knowledge at the heart of our bakery in which all our staff's foundations in the company stem from. We focus on development in all areas of the bakery, perhaps most importantly the opportunity for our staff to progress. We care about the welfare of our workforce and are dedicated to helping staff members achieve where they want to be within the company – this is reflected through a high percentage of our staff staying with us for years!

Want to know more about Waterfields and our history? Here goes...
Waterfield's began in 1926 when Alice Waterfield started her journey setting up a small bakery on Mather Lane. The pies and confectionery were popular with local factory workers in Leigh which soon led to Alice's husband Albert joining her in the bakery. A career change led Albert to achieve qualifications in baking at Manchester Technical College which helped the company flourish! As trade thrived so did the involvement of the next generation. Daughter Hilda supervised the cake decorating and later moved on to retail supervision. After army service Albert Jnr joined the firm in 1956 and with success later became Managing Director in 1961. In 1984 Hilda and Albert Jnr. took the success of the business to Manchester Road in Leigh – where the bakery stands today! Albert Jnr. sons Richard and John soon became involved as a third generation in the company. They both spent several years in the UK and across Europe perfecting their skills in the art of baking – to bring you the same high quality products Alice and Albert introduced in 1926. You will find the fourth generation working in the bakery shops, delivering high quality service, from our family to yours.
After 90 years we want to continue to celebrate the fantastic craft and quality that Waterfields has to offer its customers, and what better way than with our cakes! Cakes by Waterfields welcomes the next generation of the Waterfield family to help continue to keep our traditions alive and innovate to create some new ones.
